The Carbon Management Principles (CMPs), developed by EPA Victoria in 2007, have informed the carbon management approach of many businesses across Australia. This has allowed the CMPs to be tested within a broad range of operations and, as a result, EPA has recieved feedback on how to improve them to ensure they remain useful, relevant and applicable. In addition, the Australian climate policy context has substantially changed since 2007 and EPA needs to ensure we incorporate these changes into the CMPs.
The purpose of this review is to better define the objective and scope of the CMPs. This paper outlines the proposed changes to the CMPs that aim to incorporate feedback from business and better reflect the current policy context. Ideally, the CMPs will lead to a more clearly defined framework, with increased applicability for businesses engaging in carbon management.
